Photo Shoot - Miss Miller

We need to take photographs as we need to show our relevant niche target audience what the artist’s image is and how we are trying to portray her. The photographs show how the artist dresses and to whether she is conventional to her music genre. They also enable the audience to create a better relationship with the artist as they are able to see how she dresses and this will help the audience to get a better feel for her style and this will make it easier for them to then be able to copy the artist’s image to then for fill their needs of becoming more like her with their own image. The images will be used to the help us create a magazine advert to promote the artist and her music/image and also use these images to help us create a digipak for the artist and her song/album. These pictures would give an insight to the artists natural setting, doing the things she loves to do without being to posy and unnatural. These images for the digipak are so that the audience can see the full image of the artist, and gather her personality from the photographs, enabling them to see her as somebody who is rebellious but conventional to her genre with the use of mis-en-scene clothing, body language and facial expressions. It is important for us to take a variety of different pictures to show the artist’s image off in many different angles and show her personality through her image. This will then let the audience share a more personal relationship with the artist as they see her in her element and also give the audience more than what they would usually get giving a better more personal relationship between the artist and her niche target audience.

The first image I have taken is the artist in a more grungy/natural setting behind a garage and posing up against a brick wall. This included the mise-en-scene element iconography using a guitar to show a convention of indie music genre as this is stereotypical instrument that they play. The mise-en-scene clothing used was very conventional to an indie music genre in many ways; this included a blue, baggy denim jacket, a red/black checked shirt, tight leather leggings/grey jeans, and burgundy doc martin boots. We used these as we thought that the colours were very natural and grungy looking so we could give the artist the stereotypical indie image so that she would appeal to her target audience.

The iconography when using the guitar we positioned it so that it was centre of attention just like the artist so that the lighting would catch the two and then the setting would be darker in order to make them centre of attention and the main focus of the photograph. We had intended to use this particular picture for our main image on our magazine article as it showed the artist with many different stereotypes of the indie genre and I believed that it promoted the genre very well in that sense due to the iconography being conventional and the clothing as well; which would therefore promote the artist in a positive way.

This photograph is conventional to our chosen music genre as the mise-en-scene clothing includes your stereotypical bandana, big hair but natural hair (combed back to create volume) blue, baggy denim jacket, a red/black checked shirt, tight leather leggings/grey jeans, and burgundy doc martin boots. This is what you would stereotypically see within an indie music video as the tight clothing on the bottom half shows her figure which shows of her sexuality as an artist without being too provocative.
Another convention used within this picture is the use of iconography, the guitar. This was used as it was stereotypical a instrument that an indie artist would play and introduce into an indie music video/photo-shoot. This shows the talent of the artist and shows that she is controversial as she can sing and play an instrument and these shows off her musical talent. It also creates a better relationship between the audience and the artist as this could possible inspire the target audience to take up a musical instrument possibly the guitar to make them more relatable and more like their artist that they inspire to be, and for fill their needs as fans.
I think that the body language of the artist is good as I believe it shows a rebellious side to the artist, that in which it shows her giving some attitude and the stance is strong whilst her face says different as it is soft and gentle due to the subtle/naturalistic makeup. The dark background and the light on the face contrast with each other as it makes the artist stand out, and this makes her centre of attention. This is what you need within a digipak and a magazine advert as you need the artist to be centre of attention in order to make her notciable and recognisable to the target audience, with the low key lighting in the background and high key lighting on the artist again make her centre of attention. This will help her too create a better relationship with the audience as she is able to show the audience what her personality is like through the image and her clothing could also create a better relationship with the audience as they are able to replicate her image and her style.

]
The next image is of the artist and the use of the cinematography camera angle close up, and we have particularly taken this image as it shows the full face of the artist, and the facial expressions and eye contact will connect the artist to the audience in many ways. We found that this image was conventional to an indie music genre as it shows a close up of the artist which in theory follows Goowin's theory, as he believes that there should be many close upsn of the artist to develop a better relationship between the audience and the artist themselves. It follows the streotypical conventions of the indie genre as the use of mis-en-scene clothing, for example the red bandana is highlighted by the high-key lighting so it therefore shows off her face as it pull her hair back. The use of the bandana was convetnional as by researching indie artists, this was one piece of clothing that they constantly used to give them the edge they needed which made their face stand out more and make them centre of attention. The soft facial expressions were to show her subtleness as an artist and give away characteristics of her personality through thr expressions on her face. We used this as we wanted the audience to believe that our artist was a kind and gentle person who wanted to then therefore show the audience by tilting her head to the side and giving them direct eye contact to the camera. This would of then therefore created a better relationship with the adueicne and they would of believed that the aritst is directing her album at them and not everybody else. We also used mis-en-scene body language for this particular image where she has the peace sign over her eyes. This image was created as she is showing her personality connoting she is a peaful person and it also goes over the eyes initiating that she can only see peace within the world and nothing else. It also highlights her eyes as it captivates the aduience with the direct eye contact, leaving them focussed on her face and nothing else.
We intend to use this image particularly on our digipack, preferably the front cover as the camera angle close-up highlights the features on the artists face and makes her centre of attention. It also shows many of the different convetions of a indie music genre with the mis-en-scene elements makeup (especially the eye makeup), clothing, facial expressions and body language. This image will then therefore promote the artist in a positive light as she is recognisable to her audiences and promotes just her features of her face, showing that she isn't worried about what people think of her clothing, she just wants to show that she made the album, being centre of attention but in a way that promotes her personality in a good yet sophisticated way. By having this on our digipak it will also enable the audience to connect with the artist more and create a better relationship as they are able to see and focus on just the artist, and not all the added extra elements that are usually used within a photograph.
The image is very conventional to the indie music genre as it uses many of the different micro-elements that are meant to be included and use by indie music artists. We have had conventional mis-en-scene elements, especially clothing with the red bandana as these are streotypically used within this genre to highlight the facial features on the artist's face. We have also used elements such as subtle makeup, this is commonly used by indie artists so that they are portrayed as natrual people, and not superficial like many other genres, it creates a better relationship with the audience as they are able to see that they are not clones of every other artist, they are different and natrual to themselves and their music, it gives them a more personal feel to the aduience instead of created a relationship that would streotypically be fake and false just in order to get fans and a target audience. It subverts the genre also as you wouldn't streotypically see any peace signs within the genre/music/photographs as it could possibly take away the attention of the artist; but we have use it in a way that highlights pin points on the artists face so that we can then therefore focus on the artist and her features whilst she portrays her soft, peaceful personality through the use of her mis-en-scene body language.
I believe that the high-key lighting highlighted on the artist's face particuarly and highlighting her blue eyes is a great feature for our photograph/digipak; this is because I believe it shows key essential elements of facial expressions and eye contact which are neeed to then connect the artist and the audeince to then therefore create a better relationship between the two. It shows conventional meaning to it but also a personal feel as the audience believe that they artist is looking just at them and nobody else, which could have a hidden meaning of the artist directing her album at the audience and not anybody else.
I think that it will create a better relationship with the audience as they are able to connect better with the artist as they can see her fcial features better due to the closeup and that this will entice the audience to therefore conenct better with her as they will see elements they may not have seen on the artist before, this also could be the closest they ever get to the artist and then they will be able to cherish her album better than what they would if the camera angle used was a long-shot or different angle.

This particular photograph was taken to show the more rebellious side to the aritst. This was so we could try to show more of her personality through something that is seen to be socially respectable instead of showing her rebellious side through something that would be innapropirate and socially unnaceptable. This was a mid-shot/high angle of the artist and we used this particular camera angle so that we were able to see the convetions that she portrays through the indie genre getting the use of mis-en-scene clothing, and also iconography. This photograph shows many different conventions and we use this photo so that we could show the convetnions whilst also showing a more subverted rebellious side to the indie genre artist. The mise-en-scene clothing used was very conventional to an indie music genre in many ways; this included a blue, baggy denim jacket, a red/black checked shirt, tight leather leggings/grey jeans. We used these as we thought that the colours were very natural and grungy looking so we could give the artist the stereotypical indie image so that she would appeal to her target audience.

A piece of iconography that subverts the stereotypes is the use of the cigarette.  This shows the use of fire and was included so that we could show the relativeness of the album and the single of our music video Burn and to also show that she is a rebellious girl and not your completely stereotypical indie person. This will create a relationship with the audience as it will show a more rebellious side to the artist and to the artists personality as well.

This could also create a better relationship with the audience as they may have a better understanding to the artist and they maybe inspired to take up an instrument to themselves as the artist is playing one an they want to copy/be just like them.
It creates a better relationship between the audience and the artist as this could possible inspire the target audience to take up a musical instrument possibly the guitar to make them more relatable and more like their artist that they inspire to be, and for fill their needs as fans.

We have taken this particular image as we wanted the main element here to be on the mis-en-scene clothing of the artist. Thi is because we wanted the audience to see what the artist truly is like with her conventional indie genre and to let the audience connect and possibly copy her more than they would of. The close up main focus is on the bright eyes and the eye contact with the camera as it looks directly into the camera that the artist is able to connect with the audience and make the audience believe that she is looking directly at them and noboy else. We intend to use this image particularly maybe in the front of the digipak so the the audience are focussedon the eye contact of the artist and nothing else.

This will help her too create a better relationship with the audience as she is able to show the audience what her personality is like through the image and her clothing could also create a better relationship with the audience as they are able to replicate her image and her style.
We found taking the pictures for our photoshoot as I believe that where we took a few whilst filming it made them easier to take as I was able to take control and get into the character of the artist so posing for the photo shoot was rather exciting and something that I thought I took very easily. We also looked at other indie artist album covers and magazine articles to get inspiration about clothing and also body language and cinematography that we could use for the photo shoot. We mainly used closeups and longshots for our photographs. I feel we particularly did well the use of the lighting on the face of the artist. This was because we figured out our own way, by using the flashlight on the iPhone to shine onto the artists face to highlight the her facial features and show the direct contact of the artist towards the camera and the audience. We feel like we struggled with trying to keep the camera still, as where we were outside we didn't have anything to support our hands or arms whilst taking the pictures so when taking them they either came out blurry or shaky. We over came this by working as a team and then therefore balancing the camera hand on our knee or by using our other hand to support our arms and then the photos came out perfect.
Overall we have given our artist a soft peaceful representation so that we could give her a stereotypical indie artist persona so that she is relatable to her specific target audience.

Risk Assessment - Miss Georgiou

A risk assessment was put in place in order to let us realise the different hazards and risks that we could possible come across whilst filming our music video. By creating a risk assessment we were able to make a perception of what to look out for when we are filming, this ranged from a number of elements and this made us more aware of what to look out for when we are filming in order to give us the best possible time for filming the music video.
This will assist us with filming as again it will let us know the risks that we could face when filming.

There were many risks in which we encountered whilst filming which we also tried to overcome whilst filming. One was the risk of somebody tripping over the tripod. This was something so simple yet a risk to all involved in filming. By tripping over the tripod we endangered not only ourselves but those around us and could possibly result into injury due to surrounds such as Camden lock river, concrete, other people around us, fences etc. To try to overcome this particular hazard we decided to keep the tripod away from anybody there so nobody had the tripping hazard and then therefore could not result into injury. By keeping it out of the way and constantly having somebody to hold the tripod we were able to keep ourselves injury free and let us take more awareness of the people and their welfare. Although when filming this didn’t occur as we carried out the needed precautions just in case something did happen, the weather was wet and windy so we kept an either further distance from the people around us and the river and covered the tripod so that it was made more aware to us and the people around Camden so nothing was damaged or broken and so people didn’t fall into it.

Another risk that we could have possibly had was the risk of falling into the cannel. This was something we had to take extra caution of as this could of resulted into many problems such as drowning, hitting out head on something, boats going in and out of the cannel etc. This was obviously one of our bigger problems due to the cannel not really having an barriers to stop people from getting too close to the cannel, so in order to obviously try and overcome any potential risk we decided that distance was needed especially from the cannel in order to prevent any risk that could occur from falling in. By doing this we were able to also prevent any damage to the filming equipment that would have resulted into technical failures if broken or destroyed by falling in or dropped. Although when filming this didn’t occur as we carried out the needed precautions just in case something did happen, the weather was wet and windy so we kept an either further distance in case we were blown into the cannel.

Burning ourselves on a lighter was another risk that was more than highly likely to happen. Where none of us were accustomed to using one it was fairly difficult to use and this could have resulted in us potentially burning ourselves with the fire through the lighter. This could be prevented by keeping it away from certain features such as the face and body parts and keeping it at a distance from any open skin or clothes. We could also prevent this by keeping water close by in case any chance burning of the skin or clothes does happen that we can put it out immediately and then sooth it and prevent any infection that maybe caused. This is a risk that we must take full awareness of due to people around us as well and the potential risk of them being burnt too, so precautions were made. This never occurred when filming as the precautions were made and by practicing using the lighter before filming it enabled us to be more confident in what we were doing and therefore the precautions were not needed but we still persisted with them just in case.

Another risk was the risk of being down alley ways at night time with barely any light and looking suspicious to passers-by and neighbours too. To be able to prevent this risk we were able to inform any people that may have been affected by our filming what we were doing and our purpose and get their permission to film near their properties or within the area they were in. Luckily people were completely fine with the idea of filming for our music video and continued what they were doing. We also gave ourselves more light in the alleys ways by using flashlights to make ourselves aware of our surroundings and the people around us, and more importantly letting the people around us where we are due to the darkness. This obviously happened whilst filming in the dark but all precautions were taken to ensure the quality of our filming.

One thing that could have possibly been a risk was getting trampled on in Camden Lock and this was due to the high density of people in one area and the market also. This was prevented and could have been prevented by moving away from the larger crowds and finding more of a rural area within Camden where people were not a major issue to our filming. This would of prevented any arguments and possibly injury that of occurred due to being in a large crowd of people. Whilst filming we made sure we took the main precaution of moving away from large crowds as we wanted to remove ourselves from any possibility of any damage to ourselves, our filming and the filming equipment.

Lastly the other risk that could possibly happen was hitting people with our equipment such as the tripod and potentially hurting them or injuring them. This was prevented by taking equal amounts of time and taking turns between our group to hold the equipment to we didn’t feel the heaviness after a long period of time and so we didn’t get tired and possibly dropping the equipment also. This was affective as it also showed how we could work well as a team and together.

One risk that happened during our filming was the horrific weather which has bad winds and rain throughout the time we filmed in Camden. This started off as a problem as all risks could have occurred such as damage to our equipment, falling into the cannel due to bad weather and bad filming quality. We decided as a group to overcome this by waiting inside until the weather brightened up and was at a good place to film so that we could steadily place the equipment in a safe position in order to film. This was good for our team to decide on together as it shows that if filming was going to cause any risk we would of tried to prevent or precaution ourselves in any way.

Filming Schedule - Miss Georgiou

A filming schedule was created in order to give us an idea of when we were going to film and pin point what exactly we were going to film on that particular day. This made everything easier for us as we were able to plan as a group exactly when we were going to film in order to make everything accessible and easier for everyone to do and to get too.
Filming schedules are important to have as they enable us to have a simple structure to our groups planning and therefore give us an easier way of discussing as a group when we are all available to film and make sure we have it in writing in order to remember. They also enable us to see whether we can follow a simple structure on a day to day basis and see whether we complete them on particular days/times etc.

When we finalised our filming schedule we had to try and make sure if we could follow the structure and the timings of the schedule and see if we could complete certain elements of the schedule by the dates that we had allocated them as. We tried our best to following the schedule but with circumstances such as bad weather, people being sick we did have to try and rearrange a few days, which did set us back a bit but not too much that effected out filming. We did then take longer to film than we anticipated but it all came together in the end and we had some good footage. We also went up to the different locations twice as we recorded footage both with an without certain equipment such as the tripod to test our camera skills. This remained obvious due to some shaky footage that we needed to film certain elements again with a tripod in order to get the best footage possibly, and this again we had to change the filming schedule, but relatively we did follow the filming schedule.

Music Video Storyboards - Miss Georgiou

The purpose of a storyboard is to allow and help us to plan what specific content and elements we are going to include within our music video. It enables us to plan second by second all the different elements such as camera angles, location, iconography, sound, editing styles and also the narrative that will be used as video footage on screen. It also gives us a better idea on how to plan the way we want to film all of our footage and how every camera angle will be different throughout the entire music video, this will make everything more simpler for us to follow and therefore know exactly what we need to film and include within the editing of our music video without any confusion through the transition of the making of the music video. It also allows us as a group to plan certain elements together, and follow a structured plan instead of creating certain elements that may not flow with the video, and instead of including elements that we haven’t planned.
I had used many different elements through primary and secondary research. The primary research i used consited of questionnaires, vox pops and feedback i had recieved. The questionnaires allowed us to carry out research about our genre by asking the public certain questions that we thought would help get us feedback about the indie genre. We asked the public a range of questions ranging from how old they were to what they thought was conventional to a indie music video. This enabled us to get more infomation on certain elements and also allowed us to see what our target audience would want in a music video. This would then therefore give us a more relative feel towards the music video whislt being more relatable for the audeince and giving them a better connection and relationship with the chosen artist. This helped us plan our music video as we had to take into account the feedback from the audience and what they wanted to see, as this would of made the music video more relatable to the audience and more convetional to an indie music genre.
Another primary research element we used were pox pops. This included us to, video the questions we asked our target audience in order to see their reactions and their feedback, and it let us remember and see what they said. This also showed that by asking more people we had proof that we had given vaild evidence that we carried out our own research. This also helped us as it made us more confident with the feedback that the audience gave us and this helped us plan our storyboards as we could include the elements in which the audience wanted to see and include them for a storyboard.
Secondary research was used as we started to analyse different music videos that gave us inspirations with the music genre we had chosen which in our case was the indie music genre. By doing this we were able to plan our storyboards as it gave us a better insight to what codes and coventions were used for example location, iconpgraphy, lighting, editing and also the narrative. By analysing different music videos we saw certain elements that were constantly used throughout and this gave us the idea of not to subvert the genre's convetions and follow them, but also subvert them in subtle ways, and to try and find hidden meanings within songs so that the audience feel that the song may have something else to do with it instead of just the simple narratives that alot of the indie genre uses, as the simplicity also represents the artist effectively too. The inspirations we took from this included mis-en-scene elements such as clothing make-up and body language and facial expressions; also camer angles especially close ups of the artist. This gave us inspiration as the natrual locations and all of the other elements gave us the inspiration that the artist should be represented effectively in order to promote her in the right way, and we wanted to to portray the artist as natrual and meanigful and thoughtful and all of this research hekped us to come up with the storyboards for our music video as we included all of the elements the audience and the analysis gave us.
The group and I planned our initial storyboard through physical paper. This enabled us to sit down around a table and physically plan step by step all of the elements that we were going to include within it. As we listened to each second of the song, we were able to analyse lyrics of the song beforehand to give us a brief encounter of the narrative we were going to include when filming. This then let us plan the story boards whilst following the song and the lyrics in order to let the lyrics match the visuals in a way that could show hidden meanings or a completely different meaning to the original narrative of the song. We also had included hand-drawn images of what we wanted to include and a brief explanation of what is going on in the image. We continued to do this for every different camera angle we wanted to include, therefore giving us a numerous amounts of storyboards and frames to work with on our music video.
We shared the roles equally so that we all had a fair chance of giving ideas to include within the storyboard, and working effectively and efficiently together as a group. We decided to give each other a specific role within the group. This included myself being the decider, giving final approvals and making the final decision with what went into every frame precisely and drawing the images on the story board briefly and quickly whilst also planning how long each element would last/how long each frame would last; Leandra gave ideas about narrative and camera angles specifically so we could then finally plan the deciding iconography and location which was allocated to our final group member Charlotte. This helped us to share the responsibility and give us equal opportunities to share our ideas once we finalised everything. This also gave us the opportunity to give each other certain roles which allowed us to guide each other on what we thought was best for each frame of the storyboard and then let each other decide on the final results. By giving certain roles and all accepting certain responsibilities we were able to get the storyboards finished in a quicker amount of time and more efficiently as well due to us not having too much to do individually.
We followed our storyboards most of the time but we also filmed a lot in bulk, this is because we tried to keep the filming as natural as possible capturing moments between our actors that we simple and true to reality rather than fake and no relatable to the audience. We did make certain elements that followed the storyboard but recorded more angles so that we were able to show more footage of the same thing but from other people’s perspectives which would have given the audience an insight to what they would see if they were in the music video. We also followed it by filming the clips for a certain amount of seconds, so that the storyboard gave us an idea of how many seconds to film things for in order to follow the lyrics and the actual song itself.

However, the storyboards that you have included does not document the whole length of your song, so further planning is required to demonstrate more in depth planning of your music video.

Planning Digipak - Miss Miller

There are many reasons into why the digipaks and jewel CD cases are important and they  both have many differences and some simarlarities in relation to promoting the artist, building a relationship with the target audience and how effective they really are to the promotion of the artist's new song. Digipak's and Jewel CD cases are effective as they enable the audience to gather more information about their favourite artist and gives them an insight to the making of the song. It gives some personal feel towards the artist and the audience and creates a more intense and meaningful relationship between the two as they are able to see how the music was made and possibly a message from the artist themselves.`

The purpose of a digipak aim is to give more information to the audience about the artist so that fans can get to know them and their personal life. The digipak includes elements to give more information about the artist and the making of the album and this can create a relationship with the audience as they are able to get a better insight to their lives and this therefore makes the audience feel more connected with the artist and they know more about them as individual.
There is more of a design included within the digipak to make it more appealing to the audience which can include more images of the artist and showing them within the studio or singing whilst filming to make the audience as though they are a part of the growing stages of the star becoming what they have through the making of the album. The pictures also show the insight of the artist giving the audience a more intimate feel towards the album as they see the artist in their natural element. The artist can also usually include small notes or a signature from them as the artist to give their album a more personal feel, directing the album to their fans, therefore creating a relationship with the audience as they will feel more connected with them as they believe the autograph or message is just directed to them.
There are more spaces for images which are of main high definition and quality images to make the audience feel as though they are paying a good price for the best images of their artist giving them a more realistic feel to their image rather than one that isn’t of a high quality to make the audience feel more involved and closer to the artist and their work and to the making into their music.
The six sides used within the digipak is used instead of four as it has to be more detailed within the pack for the audience, it also makes the main points of the artist more accessible for the audience also.
The Jewel CD case usually has the basic and simple information that you need , which includes the artists name in bold and in the centre and the songs that are included within the album, which can make it easier for the audience to understand song titles and the artist. It can also appeal to a new audience as where it is simple to understand they may entice more of an audience as simple reading is what most people want within a jewel CD case.
The artists name is on the front to show the audience who the artist is and to give a clear view for audiences of all ages that this album/CD belongs to a specific artist. This helps the audience to make it easier to identify the same artist on other different advert. If their name is in bold and stands out from the rest of the other CD’s cases this makes it not only easier for the audience to recognise the artist but to identify the artist from other magazine adverts all over and their specific name.
The plastic casing of the CD case will protect the information within the case whilst also protecting the CD, allowing it to not get wet and therefore protecting the main contents which is also makes the CD more durable and protected from the damages it could get from being out in the open.
The lyrics are contained within the pack which may include the main songs within the CD case to allow the audience to sing along and get involved. This would create a relationship with the audience as they feel they can connect more with the artist if they know all of the lyrics to their songs and let them feel their own personal connection to the artist also. Some audiences like to look at the meanings behind the song that they like and therefore byreading the lyrics they are able to study and analyse and read between the lines of the song to gain a better understanding of the artists words and emotions during the song.

I will be creating a digipak in order to promote the artists new song and i want the target audience to have a better relationship with the artist as added information and images will enable them to learn more about the artist personally and create a personal feel to the artist and the relation between the audience. It will also allow me to give the audience more information on the artist that they may not of already known whilst also giving them more information about how the music was made and the chance to learn some more information about the different songs as well. It will also allow me to create a better relationship between the artist and the audience as I am able to give a personal message to the fans, so that the audience feel that the making of the album was due to them and makes them feel that the artists appreciates them and by taking a moment to write a message for them it will make the audience feel more special and more involved with the making of the artists music. To create an effective digipak i need to be able to include aknowledgements from the artist, so some personal questions about the album and why she created it and the purpose of the songs within them. Another creating a representation of the song and the artist so that they are able to see her personality through images and the music itself and to also show certain elements which relate to the conventions of a indie music genre to show the audience the genre and a bit more about the genre of the artists music. By planning a digipak it has enabled me to feel more comfortable in what goes in certain areas  and sections of the case. By planning it i now have a clearer understanding in what specifically needs to go within a digipak and how i can create a more effective digipak in order to entice my audience. Planning has also enabled me to follow the indie music genre conventions in order to make my audience create a better relationship with my artist, whilst also trying to combine to two music genres of pop and indie without creating something that will confuse my audience.

I have planned a digipak to show my different essential elements that are needed in order to show my understanding of creating a effective music cover/digpak. It involved me creating a six sided A4 sheet, eat section having a specific essential element, in order to entice my audience and give a good, conventional representation of my artist.
I firstly used elements of imagery to start off planning the front cover of the digipak. I used cinematography close ups to focus on the artists face as the main element of the front cover. I had used this specifically so that the audience can see the conventional elements used as an indie artist and show that our artist is a relatable artist that they could copy the image of. We had followed the mis-en-scene elements of clothing and make-up. We are using conventional clothing of the artist for example the use of bagging tops and jumpers to show that the artist is a relatable character. By using this we are able to show the audience that the artist doesn't follow the superficiality of the everyday modern life, and that she doesn't have a big opinion on personal image. It will appeal to our audience as it shows she is just like them and that she can be a relatable inspiration artist and somebody who is natural. The make-up will be natural but with big bold eye makeup will give the artist better eye contact through the camera and will give more eye contact with the audience and make the audience think that the album is for them.
The colour scheme for the front cover will be a mixture of conventional indie colours. We will be using neutral colours on the artist so that he stands out from the brick wall background. This is essential as it will make the artist stand out and become centre of attention. This is our main focus as we want the artist to be known to her audience and the main focus on the digipak. By using conventional indie genre colours we will be able to effectively promote the artist as being your stereotypical indie artist.

The colours we are mainly going to use throughout the entire digipak will be conventional to and indie music genre. This is because we want the artist to still remain centre of attention and not want to focus too much on the colours that will cover her surrounds. We will be using neutral colours such as light blues, light pinks, greens, oranges an red which will al be subtly used in a way. These colours will be used for the inside of the digipak where information will be given about the artist. By using these colours on the inside this could represent the artists soft personality and how the colours represent her as an artist being cheerful and happy on the inside whilst having a persona that shows her as being grungy and careless. The colours will be conventional to the indie music genre as it has to show the carefree attitude of the artist and how colourful their lives are and how being colourful represents her as an artist. The use of these colours will appeal to our target audience as they are bright, spiritual colours which connote happiness and nature, these will make the audience feel happiness with these colours as they are bright and colourful and colours that most people like to get rid of any bad energy within them; this enables them to connect with the artist as it will promote her being a positive energy within their lifestyle. The reds, orange and yellows will represent the colours of the title of the song called 'Burn' this represents the fire that we could possibly use in a dark background that could represent the grunginess of a stereotypical indie music artist. This colouring could represent the fire within a relationship and the fire that a couple needs to have a good relationship and it could represent anger and upset too, so those colours could have hidden meanings. Overall the colours will be neutral to match the personality of the artist so that she can connect with the audience showing that she is a relatable artist who is filled with happiness. This differs from a Jewel CD case as you can use a wide range of colour due to all of the extra pages that can be filled with many different colours to represent the artist, whilst in a jewel cd case only two colours are stereotypically used.

We are following many of the conventions of the indie/pop music genre and both conforming the stereotypes and subverting them. We mainly want to follow the conventions as our target audience is mainly for the indie/pop genre and if we try to subvert them we may loose the connection between the audience and the artist. One of the conventions of the genre we are going to follow is the use of cinematography close ups of the artist. This is stereotypically used on the front cover of the digipak to show the artists sense of style and the genre in which they represent themselves. The costume can represent the artist in many ways and one being as realistic to her audience. By following the mis-en-scene elements for example using beanie hats, and baggy jumpers for the close up of the artist follows the genre conventions of what an indie artist should wear, this enables us to keep our target audience related to the artist and keeping the clothing relatable for the audience to be able to copy the artist's style.
Another convention in which we will follow is the use of imagery and where the artist is within the setting. We have decided to show her in a more natural setting in her everyday life to make it more realistic for the audience and not posing too much for the camera. This is conventional to the indie music genre as it represents the artist's personality and the genre by making her more natural and less superficial to her target  audience. This is stereotypically used throughout indie music artists digipaks as they have a certain image and personality that they need to portray themselves as to keep their target audience attracted to them. By using this conventional element it is essential to keep our artist relatable to our everyday girl so that the audience are able to connect and relate to her more as an artist and believe that she is part of them as well.

The use of imagery and where the artist is within the setting. When filming our music video we had take shots of the artist within different settings to create the 'indie' look. It showed her surrounded by many different iconography's and settings and it showed her being rebellious. This idea of her being grungy and rebellious we used as we believed it to be convetnional of an indie artist. By using this imagery showing rebellion and also the setting, it gives the audience different messages about the artist portraying them in a way that the audience could connect to and create a better relationship with. It gives a more realistic approach whilst seeing her in her natrual setting and this shows the audience what the artist is really like as an individual. We have added these elements in order to give a more realistic approach to the artist for the audience and promote her in a way that the audience are able to connect with her more easily as she follows the typically coventions of a female indie artist. This will differ from a Jewel CD case as it gives a better insight to th artist and will give more information and mis-en-scene elements to the audience giving them a more personal and better connection with their artist.

The layout and design will follow the typical coventions of any digipak. I have included extra images and information about the artist so that the audience have a better image of what the artist looks like and see her in her natrual environment and/or see her in the indie element showing her personality as an artist. The design and layout used within this digipak is mainly close ups of Ellie Gouldings face to show the audience who the artist is and to promote them. These different pictures are to gain the attention of the audience and create a more personal feel that they are involved with the development of the artist and her music. The writing above and below the artists face on the front cover can show that personal touches were used as if someone personally wrote on the front cover to make it more personal for the audience. This shows the audience that she is the most important person within this digipak as she is the main artist and therefore should be identified by the audience. It will also be a more convention digipak as i want the audience to see all of the different elements i have used within the editing, the style and also the promotion of the artist themselves, and show them that by creating a more conventional indie digipak i am able to show many convetnions of an indie genre through layout and also the design to show that the artist is true to her music. By using many close ups of the artist on the front of the digipak I am able show that the artist is centre of attention and this promotes her effectively and also relates to the design of a jewel CD also and it makes the audience see that she is the main focus of the digipak.

The typography within the digipak will have a personal feel to it. This is because most of the typography is going to be handwritten by the artist. This is because the audience will feel a more personal connection with the artist as they believe that she has taken some time to consider them within the making of her music and the album/digipak. This eelement will promote the artist effectively as it shows her thinking more about her audience creating a better relationship between the two as they will then believe she has made an effort to make the audience feel more connected with her and more special to her within the making of her music, they will feel more involved this way. The handwriting of the title of the song will be across her body and chest as it makes the audience believe that it comes from Ellie Gouldings heart and that she loves all of her target audience and this could be a possible representation of the artist and the layout of the title of the song and her name. This also shows the audience that she is the most important person within this digipak as she is the main artist and therefore should be identified by the audience. The typography will also be easy to see and easier to read due to its simplicity, as this could connote to the audience that she is a simple person and isn't out to impress everybody with fancy writing or fancy connotations, she is just a simple person who wants people to see that she is convetional to her genre and to show that she is somebody who isn't fake or superficial, she is just herself.

The style of language used is mainly simple and easy to read, as this is meant to reach out to a wide audience it would be unfair for people who don't know about Ellie Goulding and if the publishers started using long words the audience may feel intimidated to buy the digipak as they may not understand what the artist is trying to say. The connotations used within this section show that the artist doesn't speak through many words but mainly through music and therefore the lack of words on this digipak shows that the audience have to listen to the music to gain an understanding of the artist. It differs from a Jewel CD case as it gives more information of the artist instead of just the basics, it gives more to the audience isntead of just giving them less of what they need and not as much information as a digipak can give, therefore not creating as much of a representation of the artist or her music and connotations.
The planning of the digipak was helpful as it enabled us to take screenshots of our filming and take pictures of the artist in a natrual setting. It gave us ideas of what to include within our digipak as well as promoting our artist effectively to our audience.

The planning of the digipak was helpful as it enabled us to take screenshots of our filming and take pictures of the artist in a natural setting. It gave us ideas of what to include within our digipak as well as promoting our artist effectively to our audience. In relation to taking pictures for our digipak, by planning what pictures we were going to include within, it made taking the pictures a lot easier due to the planning of what sort of pictures are going into the digipak and also how we were going to portray the artist to give a more personal feel to the digipak in order to create a better relationship with between that artist and the audience. It also helped us with the preparation of using Photoshop as we were able to plan the design and layout which enabled us to either allow more background, less background etc to show the persona of the artist within the digipak. It also allowed us to see what the design and layout would be and how we could position the artist to make the typography and the layout easier to do rather than having to edit more than we needed to on Photoshop. We are more aware of the type of pictures we need to use and to take for our digipak as it has enabled me to see the specific connotations that are needed within a digipak, especially an indie digipak, and make sure that it lets the audience see a different light to the artist and show her as being a relatable and natural artist, whilst giving more information through connotations such as mis-en-scene clothing, makeup, cinematography such as close ups, mid shots and long shots and other conventions of an indie digipak. The digipak pictures will then therefore follow the codes and conventions of a stereotypical indie genre digipak but with some subversion too.

Planning Editing Styles - Miss Georgiou

A variety of editing styles are essential within a music video as it enables the video to become unique, have its owns style and lets different camera angles and use of mis-en-scene and editing create a music video that is one of a kind. There are many types of editing styles, some in which include:
  • Jump Cuts - how you go from performance/narrative
  • Colour Tints
  • Filters
  • Quick Editing
  • Reaction Shots
By including many more of these editing styles it will enable us to include many of the conventional indie music genre editing styles to represent the artist and the image we are trying to portray and convey about them. Editing style

There are many editing styles we would like to use throughout our music video and some are colour tints and filters as this would help us to match the colours of the song 'Burn'. We could possibly make the colour tints over some of the video through the chorus to show the meaning behind the song title and to make the video more entreaging to watch. We would use colours such as red, yellow and orange to match the theme of fire, - this will enable us to try and connect with the audience to show that there are hidden meanings within the music video. This wouldn't be conventional to a indie music genre as this would be more connected with a pop music video as despite the colours matching the conventionally, the use of colour tints are usually used throughout an indie music video at all. By doing this, we will be subverting the stereotypes of the indie music genre and this will hopefully build a better relationship with the audience as we still follow the colour conventions of the indie music, linking this by combining both pop and indie elements together.
This represents our artist as possibly being colourful and could represent her moods connecting with the title of her song. The different colours used through the editing could present the mood changes that her and her partner experience within their relationship and this could show the artist as being very creative by creating hidden meanings throughout her song, therefore creating a relationship with the audience as she is able to show what relationships are like, and this may connect with some audience members.

Another editing style we are planning on including are quick editing, this would include the quick editing to make the pace of the music video quicker enabling us to get more images and video footage in within the video. This also includes the number of shots being able to be used within and this is used so that more narrative can be included about the relationship between the artist and her partner. This is conventional to the indie/dance genre as where the rhythm of the music is more upbeat it will allow us to entice the audience more into the narrative based video, making the audience connect with the artist more as they maybe able to relate to the narrative as they are able to see more of the struggling relationship. This editing style will help represent the artist as it shows her diversity by combining elements of two music genres, and showing the audience that she is intelligent within her music industry, hoping to produce conventional music to her specific target audience. As this represents the artist as being intellectual within her industry and somebody who is diverse it will connect more with the audience as they will be more interacted with her and see that she knows everything about the industry that she is in.

Jump cuts are another editing style we want to include within our music video. This is because we want to show the jump from narrative to performance based concepts in our music video. By doing this we are able to show both narrative and performance within the music video, showing a narrative for the audience to follow whilst showing she is a good performer through performing to the camera, directing her song to her target audience. the use of the narrative is key so that the audience see the meaning of the song through footage and have something to follow and possible relate and connect to with the artist. Narrative is essential in and indie music video as it connects the audience with the artist and show that she can go through certain things just like her audience therefore creating a relationship with them. The use of performance is also essential within an indie music video as it makes the artist look like a true performer and shows the audience that she is entertaining. It also creates a relationship with the audience as by using cinematography such as close ups for her performance the use of eye contact would be essential as it directs the song towards the audience and the audience will then therefore believe that she is performing to them, giving the song a more personal feel for them. This editing style is conventional to an indie music genre as jump cuts from narrative-performance is essential to the making of an indie music video. This makes the music video more interesting to watch, whilst also showing the personality of the artist through different elements through her acting and her performance, showing the audience that she should be apart of the music industry. It is also conventional to an indie music genre as it shows that the artist is both an actor and a musician as it could show many instruments that she could play as well.

The target audience will be able to build a relationship with our artist through the many different editing styles we want to include as it shows a diverse range of styles in order to represent the artists personality and her way of trying to entice the audience through her use of editing and her music skills. It makes the music video more interesting to watch, whilst also showing the personality of the artist through different elements through her acting and her performance, showing the audience that she should be apart of the music industry. It also helps to connect the artist with the audience as represents the artist showing her diversity by combining elements of two music genres, and showing the audience that she is intelligent within her music industry, hoping to produce conventional music to her specific target audience. By keeping to conventional elements of the music genre the target audience will respect her more as she isn't trying to push the boundaries and feel that she is more of a relatable indie artist than somebody who is trying to be somebody that she isn't.

Include images from google to support the points that you have made. Then include original images to show how your planning helped you in creating your music video.
