A variety of editing styles are essential within a music video as it enables the video to become unique, have its owns style and lets different camera angles and use of mis-en-scene and editing create a music video that is one of a kind. There are many types of editing styles, some in which include:
- Jump Cuts - how you go from performance/narrative
- Colour Tints
- Filters
- Quick Editing
- Reaction Shots
By including many more of these editing styles it will enable us to include many of the conventional indie music genre editing styles to represent the artist and the image we are trying to portray and convey about them. Editing style
There are many editing styles we would like to use throughout our music video and some are colour tints and filters as this would help us to match the colours of the song 'Burn'. We could possibly make the colour tints over some of the video through the chorus to show the meaning behind the song title and to make the video more entreaging to watch. We would use colours such as red, yellow and orange to match the theme of fire, - this will enable us to try and connect with the audience to show that there are hidden meanings within the music video. This wouldn't be conventional to a indie music genre as this would be more connected with a pop music video as despite the colours matching the conventionally, the use of colour tints are usually used throughout an indie music video at all. By doing this, we will be subverting the stereotypes of the indie music genre and this will hopefully build a better relationship with the audience as we still follow the colour conventions of the indie music, linking this by combining both pop and indie elements together.
This represents our artist as possibly being colourful and could represent her moods connecting with the title of her song. The different colours used through the editing could present the mood changes that her and her partner experience within their relationship and this could show the artist as being very creative by creating hidden meanings throughout her song, therefore creating a relationship with the audience as she is able to show what relationships are like, and this may connect with some audience members.
Another editing style we are planning on including are quick editing, this would include the quick editing to make the pace of the music video quicker enabling us to get more images and video footage in within the video. This also includes the number of shots being able to be used within and this is used so that more narrative can be included about the relationship between the artist and her partner. This is conventional to the indie/dance genre as where the rhythm of the music is more upbeat it will allow us to entice the audience more into the narrative based video, making the audience connect with the artist more as they maybe able to relate to the narrative as they are able to see more of the struggling relationship. This editing style will help represent the artist as it shows her diversity by combining elements of two music genres, and showing the audience that she is intelligent within her music industry, hoping to produce conventional music to her specific target audience. As this represents the artist as being intellectual within her industry and somebody who is diverse it will connect more with the audience as they will be more interacted with her and see that she knows everything about the industry that she is in.

Jump cuts are another editing style we want to include within our music video. This is because we want to show the jump from narrative to performance based concepts in our music video. By doing this we are able to show both narrative and performance within the music video, showing a narrative for the audience to follow whilst showing she is a good performer through performing to the camera, directing her song to her target audience. the use of the narrative is key so that the audience see the meaning of the song through footage and have something to follow and possible relate and connect to with the artist. Narrative is essential in and indie music video as it connects the audience with the artist and show that she can go through certain things just like her audience therefore creating a relationship with them. The use of performance is also essential within an indie music video as it makes the artist look like a true performer and shows the audience that she is entertaining. It also creates a relationship with the audience as by using cinematography such as close ups for her performance the use of eye contact would be essential as it directs the song towards the audience and the audience will then therefore believe that she is performing to them, giving the song a more personal feel for them. This editing style is conventional to an indie music genre as jump cuts from narrative-performance is essential to the making of an indie music video. This makes the music video more interesting to watch, whilst also showing the personality of the artist through different elements through her acting and her performance, showing the audience that she should be apart of the music industry. It is also conventional to an indie music genre as it shows that the artist is both an actor and a musician as it could show many instruments that she could play as well.
The target audience will be able to build a relationship with our artist through the many different editing styles we want to include as it shows a diverse range of styles in order to represent the artists personality and her way of trying to entice the audience through her use of editing and her music skills. By keeping to conventional elements of the music genre the target audience will respect her more as she isn't trying to push the boundaries and feel that she is more of a relatable indie artist than somebody who is trying to be somebody that she isn't.
