Planning Lighting and Setting - Miss Georgio

There are a variety of lighting styles within a music video, such as; strobe lighting, high key lighting and low-key lighting. The lighting is essential within a music video because it can create an atmosphere within the scene and allow the audience to be connected with the artist through the different lighting and the atmospheric features it can create. The lighting used can also determine the type of person that the artist is, for example strobe lighting is mainly used within nightclubs and therefore can show the audience that particularly the artist prefers to go out and enjoy themselves having a good time, showing their fun instuisit side.
High key lighting is mainly used in open areas and large spaces because mainly natural light is used form outside including the sun mainly, which can represent the artist as an open character who likes to live free and likes to express themselves from the outside.
Low-key lighting can show that the artist likes to be mysterious, this type of lighting can be used within buildings, alleyways or shifty areas, and it also can be used for a romantic setting.
Colours are essential within a music video because each of the different colours can represent a mood or emotion, for example; yellow and orange can be seen as fiery and passionate. Blue can be seen as cold and distance; this can show the audience what type of person the artist is and how the lighting can represent the characters the artist is trying to be within the music video. Each colour can show the audience through the filters, what that person is about and how they like to be represented.

In our music video we intend on using high key lighting as most of our setting is going to be outside in Camden Market so natural daylight is required for our music video. This will help represent the artist as being open and fun because she is enjoying herself going out with her partner. It couldalso represent the artist as being quite natural as  This is conventional to a music genre because indie artist like to be shown as natural therefore it would be highly appropriate to have high key lighting and to keep the music video as natural as possible. This lighting will help represent our artists personality and show the audience that our artist is just ike her genre which would be conventional.
Also within our music video we are going to rely on the fire light as in one of our scenes we are going to have the artist burning things in a large bonfire in her garden, therefore this will create a very low key lighting which can represent the artist and her feelings at this present moment. This is conventional within a music genre because the lighting can reflect the mood of the artist and how they are feeling. The natural lighting from the bonfire shows that a natural theme is still carrying on and instead of using the sun as a light source, we are going to use a bonfire light as the light source. when we are in the dark. This lighting will help represent our artist as mysterious and dark at times, this shows the audience the feelings that the artist possesses.
yellow filter used can represent the freeness that the artist has or the different feeling that she may be experiencing. Yellow filter can represent the happiness within her that shines like the sun. This is conventional within a music genre because all indie music videos have filters used within them to create an extravagant look, also to come across to the audience as hippy and different. This could help represent the artist of her feelings at the present moment, and explain how she feels to the audience through the use of colour and filters.
The red and orange used by the bonfire can get across to the audience how the artist is feeling at this present appointed time, for example red and orange are known to be seen as angry and upset. This is conventional to the indie music genre because the artist is explaining her emotions and feelings through the use of colour and filters. This helps represent the artist as angry with something at this particular moment.
The target audience can build a relationship with our artist through the emotions and feeling that the artist is feeling. The target audience is mainly young teenage women going into their early twenties, this can be an emotional time for woman this age who may be going through the emotional stage with a break up and therefore is expressing her feelings through the use of colour instead of the words that she may be singing. Teenagers and young women may be going through this particular emotion where they are in a relationship and fall in love, but later something goes wrong and they break up. The lighting can express particular members of the audience as open and happy, this relates to the yellow filter. The fire light is mainly low key lighting to cast shadows which can express depression and how low in themselves they feel, this can also relate to the orange and red filter which comes across as angry and upset.

The style within our music video is mainly narrative and performance based throughout so that we can get the lyrics to match the visuals and to help create a relationship for the audience and artist to have when in the music video. The style of the narrative will make the audience connect with the artist more as we are having a natural relationship in the narrative and also this is something that the audience could possibly relate to or want and the twist in the narrative is the abusive relationship they follow and again this could connect with the audience as they may feel sympathy towards the artist. The narrative aim is so that it can effect the audience in a way in which they could possibly connect the artist and the and the together and relate in a way they think is acceptable to the normal world, therefore making the music video relatable to the everyday moments. The performance style will be used through the use of cinematography camera angles such as long shots to show off the figure and the sexuality of the artist and the close ups to show off the natural beauty of the artist and show her talent through her singing. This will connect with the audience in a better way as due to the performance they will get to see her perform to them and they may think its only them but it also shows off her talent as a musical artist. This also links in with the style of our music video as it shows that i am following the stereotypes of the indie genre, this meaning the natural style i am trying to create is shown through the setting because i am not creating a new setting, i am using what the world had create and using the elements such as the rivers and the streets that are available to use at no extra cost. This style then links with our product of naturability as the whole entire genre of indie is also natural and therefore makes it more easy for the audience to be able to connect with if the style ad everything connects with the genre. It also lets the audience have their own personal eperience with the aritst and create a more personal feel towards the artist as they are able to see the artist in a better light and also gain a better understanding of the facial festures of the artist too.

  1. This post demonstrates some planning techniques. It is clear to see that you have considered the various lighting and colour styles that you would like to include within your production. You have made a start in explaining where the technique will be seen and the effect that it will create towards an audience, but further explanation of how it follows the style of your production is needed to demonstrate further planning techniques.

Also aim to include images to support the points that you have made.
